History was made this Sunday at The 67th Annual Grammy Awards! For the first time in what seems like a very long time, according to viewers & the TL, it seems the Recording Academy got it right. Below are a few of my favorite highlights!

Kendrick Lamar set a new record for having diss track โ€œNot Like Usโ€ win in the categories of Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance, & Best Music Video. He threw some shade per usual by wearing a โ€œCanadian Suitโ€ at the ceremony. Taking the time to thank his label, his team, & the city of Los Angeles & surrounding areas.

Doechii took home Best Rap Album for her mixtape โ€œAlligator Bites Never Healโ€ as she emotionally thanked her team, fans, & her mom. She is the third woman to win in the category, with Cardi B, who presented the award to her having won before. Doechii also had some very inspiring words for those watching at home.

SZA‘s “Saturn” won her an award for Best R&B song. Adding one more victory to the start of the year for TDE’s label. Not only will SZA be joining Kendrick Lamar on The Grand National Tour & at The Super Bowl next Sunday; she’s also killing it in the box office with her current feature film “One of Them Days.” The wins for TDE just don’t stop!
After receiving her award she was asked if there was anything she can spill about her upcoming Super Bowl performance to which she replied, “That’s King Kendrick’s performance. Mmm-mm!”

A lot of great wins for R&B this year at the Grammys! Muni Long‘s โ€œMade For Me (Live on BET)” won for Best R&B Performance, while Lucky Daye‘s “That’s You” snagged one for Best Traditional R&B performance. Chris Brown‘s “11:11 (Deluxe)” won for Best R&B album. Rapsody took one home for Best Melodic Rap Performance with “3” featuring Erykah Badu.

One of my all time favorite songs “Die With a Smile” by duo Lady Gaga & Bruno Mars won a Grammy for Best Pop Duo/ Group Performance! The two graced the stage to pay homage to the city of Los Angeles to perform a rendition of “California Dreaming.”

Coming off of her Christmas Game Day performance & announcing a brand new tour, Beyonce took home two awards for her “Cowboy Carter” album, Best Country Album & Album of the Year. Her genuine surprise for snagging Best Country Album quickly took the internet by storm (watch below).

Sabrina Carpenter got her first Grammy’s for Best Pop Vocal Album with “Short n’ Sweet” & Best Pop Solo Performance for “Espresso.” Her emotions have been very high since finding out she was nominated while on tour to having the Grammy in hand. She performed a mash up of her two hit songs “Espresso” & “Please Please Please” last night as well.

Best New Artist went to Chappell Roan who had a lot to say to those watching in the arena last night. Having been a signee at a young age, she took a moment to defend not only her younger self, but those who currently might be in the same shoes. Watch below.

Shakira took a Grammy for Best Latin Pop Album with her album “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” & dedicated the award to her immigrant brothers & sisters. Stating, “You are loved, you are worth it, & I will always fight with you.” Watch the full speech below.

Presented by Queen Latifah, Alicia Keys is now the first woman to receive the Dr Dre Global Impact award at this years show. With the impact that Alicia Keys has had on music fans throughout the years, the award is very much deserving. Not only that, but the strength, talent, support, & representation of women at this years Grammy’s was very strongly felt.
