It’s kind of funny how the universe choses to work sometimes. The other day I had gone on a listening spree, as I like to call it, for DVSN. Sometimes life, alongside the overflow of new music that is released causes fans (or maybe it’s just me?) to sort of forget about an artist. Ah, but when that artist you forgot about reappears on your playlist, it’s the most marvelous feeling that tickles the farthest part of your brain. The memories, emotions, & excitement hit & your instincts kick in to replay said forgotten artists whole catalog as if you’ve never heard it before. That is what I call a listening spree. A dive back into the music in simplest terms.
As I drove home the other night DVSN appeared on my playlist & my listening spree began. I wondered what they were up to but also pushed it out of my mind. The industry can delay music for a number of reasons & because I have been in those places, I do my best not to be selfish & tweet about it. You will catch be say something every once in a while but, who’s paying attention to lil ol’ me, right?
Daniel Daley & Producer Nineteen85, the duo who are DVSN have been quiet for some time. With their latest release being “Working On My Karma” (2022) & having toured the project shortly after, fans could only assume they were working silently. Jermaine Dupri cut that silence short today with a post on his socials stating, “After working with the group on their last album and going to their shows, seeing how much their fans love them, and then when I heard they just become free agents, I had to sign them and make DVSN my first signing at So So Def/HYBE.”
DVSN followed up on this tweet stating, “4 everyone that’s been wondering what’s been going on and where’s the new music… it’s [on the way].”
Being the legend that Dupri is, with the great work he’s already done with DVSN, this is very exciting news for music fans. Artists thrive when in the hands of creatives that understand them & know how to polish the talent they already hold, I think we can assume this partnership will be no different. As I dive into another listening spree to prepare for some new music, I’m sure music fans are looking forward to what Dupri come with this summer.
