Your favorite boyband is back! 5 Seconds of Summer caused quite the commotion on Saturday morning (9/20) with some posters and not-so vague Instagram posts. Little did we know (we kind of did know) these clues were being planted for months.
It began this past June, a fan account on X (formerly known as Twitter), posted a screenshot of an Instagram account named thediaryofsix that was said to be linked to the band. A causal fan would’ve never been able to find the correlation between this random Instagram account and the 5SOS boys, but one should never doubt the fandom that is 5SOS.
At the time, the account had zero posts, but followed all 4 members of the band. The boys are known for documenting their creative process, so the diary part makes sense, as well as the six, as their next album would be their sixth. It gained a handful of followers and we waited…
As of late, the boys have been calling themselves a boy band. Now this is where it gets funny, as the 5SOS fandom has spent a lot of time defending our boys on not being a typical boy band. Over the years, they’ve definitely poked fun at it within their interviews and skits. The captions as of late were a bit odd though, almost set up as rage bating to say the least. On Luke Hemming’s birthday he captioned an Instagram post with “How old is 29 in boyband years?” A few days ago, the 5SOS TikTok account also joined in with a video of all 4 members captioned, “Your favorite boyband.”
On the morning of 9/20, three pictures were posted on thediaryofsix, a pink background with the statement “THE HIATUS IS OVER.” Causing quite the frenzy online as a website appeared in the bio www.yourfavoriteboyband.com. The website lead users to a page, similar to the posts that stated “The hiatus is over. Check back tomorrow for more details. Sign up here.”
The evening of September 29th, thediaryofsix posted 6 more photos, continuing with the bright colored theme. Posts that read “Your favorite boyband is back” continuing with “Comeback loading…” The instagram also took a moment to post a single from each album on its story, and not just any singles either. Each single that was posted was also one that was used to announce an upcoming project; Self titled with “She Looks So Perfect,” Sounds Good, Feels Good “She’s Kinda Hot,” Youngblood “Want You Back,” CALM “Easer,” & 5SOS5 “Complete Mess.” Which has only lead fans to believe that tomorrow’s surprise will be a singe release.
thediaryofsix also has an X account that has been tweeting for the past 24 hours, fans have been speculating on whether or not its an official account. With its first tweet being the website yourfavoriteboybandisback following up with the link thenewbrokenscene.com which leads users to the 5sos.com. It’s last tweet was at 4:01 am PST.
As posters continue to appear in different cities and the seconds are counted down to this next announcement, as a fangirl who can’t get enough of 5 Seconds of Summer, excited isn’t even a word.
